Building momentum.

Good morning.

You join me as usual, with a light breeze on my back, a cup of tea in my left hand and the sunshine gleaning through my window. I’ve just arrived home from the first ever meeting of momentumclub.eu, a community that I launched this week along with my friend and business partner, Sebastian Nyrup. Sitting around a table on a Thursday night, myself sniffing every three seconds like some nightmarish child you got placed next to on the plane (I have a cold!), we drafted a plan and within 4 hours built and launched the site and concept to connect entrepreneurs, business people, and high performers in Maastricht and beyond.

We both felt that the options were lacking for social and business connections in a city with such talented people from so many fields- or maybe we just didn’t know where to find them. Either way, I made some calls, and for the first time at 9am in Plein 1992, we had four creative people with similar aspirations and minds in once place ready to butt heads, build a community from the ground up, and hopefully (eventually) make something truly impactful. It’s a real shame that powerful small-medium sized cities like Maastricht, Aachen, Liege, Ghent, Lund, Warwick… (you get the point) are often forgotten about in these circles. We are always dreaming of getting to [insert bigger city here] and neglecting the fantastic companies, minds, and dreams from the less talked about places. But you can’t blame anyone really, can you? Anyway, if you’re around in Maastricht, we’ll be at Plein 1992 every Sunday at 9am… and if you’re looking to start something like this in your city, give us a shout over at contact@momentumclub.eu and we’ll get back to you asap with our plans and how to get started. If this goes well, then we can really create meaningful communities in some of the loneliest times and professions in Europe and beyond!

Aside from that all, today is a gorgeous day, and I’ll be at work for most of it. 28 degrees scheduled, homework done, and ready to cruise into week two of university. It’s certainly already a higher workload than the previous year, but I’m ready and raring to go for that. The content seems pretty interesting too, though having this horrible cold made me tired and delirious for half of the week. I need to stay in the swing of things and continue on the up. I can already see the effects of some good habits stacking, and I’m feeling way happier than I was over the summer, which is a big, big motivator that I want to carry through until the next inevitable dip in time, motivation, energy etc. at some point in the future. As James Clear says, whenever the bollocks hits the proverbial fan, it’s always you that falls to the level of your base systems. If I can build those habit systems strong over the next few weeks and months, I’ll have a solid foundation to survive the winter and keep making progress on university and my goals in 2026.

The highlight of my week, if not building momentumclub.eu, was probably the weekly waterscouting wacht, where we worked on helping the kids attain some sailing badges.

Overall, I’d say this week has been a solid 8/10. Cheers to the next one.

With love,
Alex
